About NFC
Digital Passport
Some katch items have an NFC chip sewn in. It cannot be removed or re-attached. Each chip is linked to a digital twin of the item on the blockchain.
To make the item yours, you need to activate it once from your phone. It takes a minute.
How to activate
- Hold your phone against the tag on the inside of the item
- Open the notification that appears on the screen
- A Telegram mini app will open. Minimise it and tap “Start” in the bot chat
- Return to the app and sign in with your email
- Tap “Activate”
- Done. The item is now registered to you
What you will see
After activation, the passport of the item opens: drop, size, colour, serial number and activation date. From there you can also view the blockchain record.
All activated items are collected in your profile in the app.
Why this matters
Anyone can check that an item is genuine — just hold a phone against it and the passport opens on the screen. But only the owner can activate the item, and that is what separates checking from claiming.
On resale, the buyer can see that the item is authentic.
If something goes wrong
The phone does not react to the chip. Check that NFC is enabled in your settings. Hold the top part of the phone against the tag and keep it there for a couple of seconds. A thick case, or a case with metal in it, is best taken off.
No notification appeared. Do not move the phone away immediately, the response takes a second.
A “verification” page opened. That means the item has already been activated. If it was not you who activated it, write to us and include your order number.
The sign-in email does not arrive. Check your spam folder.
Passing the item on
At the moment, activation ties an item to a single account. Transferring ownership to another person does not work yet. If you are selling or passing the item on, write to us.
Items with a chip
Not every item has a chip. This is marked separately with an NFC icon on the product card.
